The Underestimated Power of Our Energy Field

by | May 19, 2025 | 2. Aware, Changing perspective

When I first started hearing about “energy field,” I thought people had lost their minds. Seriously. The idea that we are not just physical beings, but also energetic ones — and that we need to cleanse and protect our energy — sounded like nonsense. I was used to showers, grooming, and external hygiene… but spiritual hygiene? That was way outside my comfort zone.

But then something changed.

My First Wake-Up Call

I’ll never forget a Tuesday during one of my early shamanic trainings. We were handed feathers and asked to perform a cleansing on a fellow student. I thought it was a joke.

A feather? You want me to wave a feather around to clear energy?

But something told me to go along with it. So I did. I let go of my mind — just for a moment — and started the practice. And then something completely unexpected happened. I began to sweat. My body responded. And more importantly — the person I was working with began to shift, so much so that the teacher had to intervene. The energy had been too strong.

That was the first time I witnessed a non-physical action have such a profound physical effect. I couldn’t unsee it. I couldn’t un-feel it. And from that moment, my view of the energetic world started to shift.

What I Ignored, and What I Now Know

Back then, I dismissed things like energy protection and cleansing as spiritual fluff. I saw people wearing crystals and using sage and thought, This is too much. I couldn’t connect with it — until I experienced the consequences of ignoring it.

Years later, and after working with hundreds of people (and myself), I now know this truth: our energy field is real — and it needs care, just like our body does.

When we don’t take care of our energy, we:

  • Feel drained without knowing why
  • Repeat emotional or behavioral patterns we thought we’d outgrown
  • Absorb energy from others (in relationships, at work, even in public spaces)

And when we do care for it? Life becomes lighter, clearer, more aligned. I now treat energy hygiene as essential as brushing my teeth.

Spiritual Hygiene: What It Means

Cleansing isn’t just a ritual. It’s a way to reset, clear attachments, and come back to your own center.

Here are a few simple methods I now use:

  • Salt Showers: Just regular kitchen salt, rubbed on the body in the shower with the intention to cleanse.
  • Sage or Palo Santo: Smoke cleansing around the body, especially after intense encounters.
  • Pendulum Cleansing: My personal go-to. Subtle, quick, and surprisingly effective.

More than the tool, it’s the intention that matters. The willingness to clear, to let go, to reset.

Protection: The Missing Piece

Cleansing is only half of the story. The other is protection — shielding our energy from what we don’t want to take on. Not with fear, but with awareness.

Just like we dress for the weather, we can consciously choose to protect our field before entering intense spaces, meetings, or emotionally charged environments.

My method? A simple energetic visualization — putting a light “field” around myself with the intention to stay in my own energy. It’s subtle. Invisible. But it works.

What Changed When I Took My Energy Fields Seriously

For years, I would go through cycles of exhaustion, emotional burnout, and confusion — not understanding why. My therapist would gently suggest cleansing practices, and I’d ignore them.

But over the past month, I committed to a daily routine of energetic hygiene — even when I didn’t fully believe in it. And slowly… things shifted.

  • I felt more grounded.
  • I stopped absorbing other people’s energy.
  • I became more emotionally stable.
  • And most importantly, I felt like myself again.

Now, I cleanse almost daily — not from superstition, but from experience. It’s my foundation.

Your Energy Field Is Real. Start Treating It That Way.

You don’t have to be a shaman to understand this. You’re already an energetic being. The question is: are you caring for your energy as well as you care for your body?

Start small:

  • Use salt in the shower.
  • Try a smoke cleanse.
  • Take 30 seconds to visualize a protective shield before your next meeting.

These aren’t “woo” — they’re practical tools for living in a high-impact, high-noise world.

And if you’re a therapist, healer, or simply someone navigating life — I encourage you to explore this. Because the more you maintain your energy field, the more clearly you’ll feel, the more empowered you’ll become… and the more resilient you’ll be.

Thank you for your attention.
